I visited 阿伯梅汁水果店 in Shantou, a fruit stall run by Uncle She for over 40 years. Each fruit bowl cost 20 yuan ($3 USD), and the prices haven’t increased in more than 20 years. They serve freshly cut seasonal fruits like wax apple, carambola, guava, mango, pear, plum, and pear, all cut fresh daily. Then marinated in their homemade green plum sauce, slowly cooked from green plums and sugar. It’s tangy, refreshing, and not overly sweet.
